The Knight from Olmedo (2008)

For Guitar, Trumpet, Castanets

Duration: 11 minutes

When I wrote this, I was working closely with the professor of theater, Tim Troy. He was directing a play at the time titled “The Knight from Olmedo.” He asked me to provide music to be played during the play, as people walked in to the play, and as people left. I wrote this in rondo form as the piece and much of the play focus on a main theme. The story is about a knight who hears a prophesy and the effects of this prophesy on him and the kingdom he inhabits. The melody I created for the prophesy is the same as was used for the rondo head, or refrain. The departures from the rondo head are the effects of the prophesy on various aspects of the music.
